The Learning Farm is an: educational center and community where disadvantaged youth gain practical skills, knowledge and support; productive organic farm where youth learn small scale organic agriculture; social enterprise where advanced students can apprentice and learn about entrepreneurship; catalyst where new ideas to advance sustainable and community based development are being tried and shared with others Who We Are: The Learning Farm (TLF) was initiated in 2005 by World Education to address the lack of skills, opportunities, and hope amongst vulnerable Indonesian youth. The Karang Widya Foundation, an Indonesian not-for profit equivalent is TLF’s organizational home was also established in 2005 and now solely responsible for management and governance of the programs. Located at the Maleber Tea Plantation, bordering the Gede Pangrango National Park in Cipanas, West Java, The Learning Farm’s goal is to enable youth to become more economically self-sufficient, capable, and productive members of their communities through participation in a residential training program where they learn about organic farming, enterprise development, and valuable life skills. The organic farming interventions transform participants’ values, outlook, and expectations of self and community and equip them with tangible, marketable skills while working and participating in a purposeful, communal, environment.
