The last week of May 2013 was a very busy week for TLF students. Aside from attending to their daily routines at the farm, they also gained some additional knowledge and skills by participating in a number of different activities. On Wednesday, 29 May 2013, our students received first aid training from the Cianjur branch of PMI. They learnt about basic first aid theory, basic life rescue processes, and caring for wounds. They also practiced techniques related to each of these areas and developed some essential skills for their present and future lives. This training was also attended by Pak Hendri from Maleber Tea Plantation.

On Saturday, 1 June 2013, our students received another training session from Ibu Yanti of Trashion Koperasi, Pasar Minggu, Jakarta. Ibu Yanti taught them another way to care for the environment by turning plastic trash into saleable craft items. This has enhanced their understanding about saving the environment in other ways apart from organic farming.

At the same time, TLF also played host to 28 students from Tanglin Secondary School in Singapore. Accompanied by 4 teachers, a very enthusiastic group of junior secondary students came to TLF to participate in our Edible Backyards Course (EBC) over the weekend of 1 – 2 June 2013. It was a wonderful experience for them as they not only learned about organic farming but also shared some fun and gifts with our own students. It was the third time that Tanglin Secondary School Singapore has brought their students here to learn and, at this EBC, we launched the Animal Farming and Urban Farming components as part of the course content.
